From the vast, rain-drenched forests of Oregon to the immense volcanic mass of Mount Rainier, the North American west coast features some of the most spectacular scenery and most dynamic cities in North America.

Most cruises sail from San Francisco in the south or down through the Puget Sound from Vancouver, calling in at stops in Northern California, Oregon, Washington and British Columbia.

The sophistication and cultural richness of Vancouver makes it one of the highlights of a cruise of the North American west coast, with the Aquarium representing a particularly popular day out with families.

Victoria with its genteel ambience is another favourite with cruise passengers. The Butchart Gardens make for a wonderfully relaxing stroll, or guests can simply enjoy a cup of tea in one of its charming cafes.

However, Seattle is the stop that many cruise passengers are just itching arrive at and explore. From the world-famous Space Needle to the clubs where Nirvana first played and the majestic 14,410-foot active volcano Mount Rainier, Seattle is a refined yet restless city that passengers of all ages simply adore.

Less well know but common stops on a cruise of the west coast include Prince Rupert, Campbell River, Astoria and Grays Harbor.

From the port of Los Angles visit the town of Avalon is a quaint village on Catalina Island. From the promenade, you can stroll along the colourful Pleasure Pier, which offers numerous opportunities for exploring the island's emerald waters with world-famous glass bottom boat rides, a semi-submersible undersea tour, flying fish boat trip, coastal cruise and a romantic sunset buffet cruise. If you’re in town between December to March don’t miss out on the annual migration of the Pacific gray whale tour from the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium.

Unlike the majority of the US, the west coast retains an authentic frontier culture that is a joy to experience. With something to suit passengers of all tastes, a North American west coast cruise is the only way to see this most spectacular region of North America.
