New England Cruises - Holiday Destination

A cruise of New England offers visitors the chance to experience some of the most scenic, historic and cultured regions in America, taking in sights and sounds from quaint fishing villages to major international hubs. Boasting convenient homeports and a relaxing pace up or down the New England coast, a cruise of this most beautiful part of America is ideal for romance or those with young families.

Many cruises of New England set off from New York harbour, pulling in at Newport, Rhode Island as one of the first ports of call. As one of the oldest towns in the US, visitors can have a drink in the nation's oldest tavern, the White Horse Inn, established in 1673, or just enjoy the mix of big city bustle with a small town ambience.

Boston also features on a cruise of New England. The city was home to some of the greatest American patriots such as Paul Revere, Drew Bledsoe and Benjamin Franklin and strolling along the cobbled streets visitors can feel the history seeping form every pore. But with its vast selection of nightclubs and theatres, Boston also boasts a highly modern edge too.

With its mix of fish markets, ferry docks and condos, Portland, Maine is a vibrant affair and, bordered by the state's rocky coast, offers a fine selection of water sports. Passengers can disembark and indulge in kayaking, fishing, sailing and snorkeling, in addition to some of the best sandy beaches in the US.

However, for many Bay Harbor is the highlight of any cruise around New England. Guests can stand atop Cadillac Mountain, where daylight hits before any other place in the US. The wide bay is home to a rich diversity of wildlife, protected by the rugged coastline of Acadia National Park.

While New England may not offer the same mix of sun and sand that so many cruise passengers favour, it offers guests the chance to see some of America's most significant and scenic sights, all from the comfort and luxury that only a cruise ship can provide.
