Myleene Klass To Name Carnival Splendor
Monday, June 9th, 2008
Singer, model and television presenter Myleene Klass has been named as godmother for new cruise ship Carnival Splendor.
Klass will lead the naming ceremony for the Carnival Cruises superliner in Dover on July 10th 2008, before the vessel sets sail for Amsterdam on a three-day mini cruise prior to its July 13th official maiden voyage to the Baltic countries.
In a break from traditional christening ceremonies, the classical musician will break a bottle of sparkling wine instead of champagne on the ship’s hull.
President of Carnival Cruises Gerry Cahill described Klass as the "perfect" choice of godmother for the occasion.
"I am very excited, and a little nervous, at becoming a ship’s godmother for the first time, especially when it involves naming a ship the size of the Carnival Splendor," Klass commented, adding that her family is "connected" with ships and that her father had served in the merchant navy.
Carnival Splendor features such amenities as four swimming pools and can accommodate up to 3,710 passengers.
Virgin Holidays Cruises are leader's in Caribbean cruises, Mediterranean cruises and cruise & stay holidays.
