Holland America Line Named World Saver
Wednesday, August 20th, 2008
Holland America Line (HAL) has been recognised by Conde Nast Traveller as a "leader in social responsibility".
The luxury cruise line has been named as a finalist in the magazine’s 2008 World Savers Awards, along with 37 other leading companies.
Panellists were impressed by the number of donations made by the cruise line to charitable organisations and those most in need.
HAL recently donated $90,000 (£48,000) worth of dental equipment, including a number of chairs, x-ray machines and general supplies.
Commenting on the nomination, Richard D Meadows, executive vice president of marketing, sales and guest programmes, said: "One of the world’s major cruise lines, we recognise our important role in protecting and contributing to the well-being of the communities we visit, both environmentally and socially."
Mr Meadows added that the donation of medical equipment to worthy causes was just one part of the cruise line’s social responsibility initiative.
HAL’s five-star fleet currently offers cruises to all seven continents.
